Hip Hop has always been a male dominated genre where the female emcee has taken a back seat to the male voice we celebrate and embrace in our culture. One not to succumb to the cycle set before her, Jersey’s own Elle Vie is looking to change that path with her brand of real music.
Fresh off the release of her debut mixtape Krik Krak: The Legend of the Dream Chaser, Elle Vie, that’s two L’s to get you lifted, is set to inspire listeners with her words evoked from personal experience and through the encounters of others around her. Passion rides high over words darted by the 23 year old emcee who’s lyrical prowess and Caribbean cadence mirror that of a once celebrated Lauryn Hill circa 98′. Quite the comparison to make at an early stage of one’s career, but not one that is too farfetched. In an era where shock value and a pretty face are given highest praise, Elle’s talent is enough to justify a place amongst the greats with her music. Looking to break down barriers in a industry where shadiness resides, especially for a young female trying to make a honest career out of something she loves, nothing seems to phase Elle Vie.
The ITO team took it upon ourselves to shoot a video feature on Elle Vie at the BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) to get more acquainted with the artist and her work. A charm to work with and a an all around team player, especially with everyones hunger pains through a good three hour plus shoot! Despite the famine, we managed to get some good footage and photos and put together our first artist feature for the site.
